This problem has been driving me crazy for weeks. I can read and burn CDs and I can burn data DVDs successfully, but I cannot burn videos/movies. I've tried several authoring packages (Movie Factory 2, Dazzle, Sonic MyDVD, etc.) and they all fail in similar ways. MyDVD told me that there was a communication error. The others just failed with obscure messages. Nothing was ever burned onto the DVD, which is rated as 4X, although I'm only trying to burn at 1X most of the time. Of course none of the software manufacturers are of any help, even if they get back to me.
I've upgraded the firmware to 1.3. Nero 5.5 has no trouble burning data DVDs. I've removed all USB devices from the machine. Some comments on the Web state that I should disable UDMA in Windows (I'm running 98SE) but it's not obvious how. I've got plenty of RAM (1GB) and storage space (2 120GB drives). Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks. I'll take a crack at it. Although some of the directions are not obvious to me, since I know nothing about VIDEO_TS or AUDIO_TS folders and how I should edit the IFO. But shouldn't I be able to create an ISO file from the authoring programs and use NERo to burn them directly? Or am I missing something?

Isn't your real problem that you are running win98se?
That operating system uses fat32 which limits filesize to below 4gig.
Burning dvd video uses files sizes bigger than what's allowed by your version of windows. -
That isn't true since dvd compliant video files (vobs) are split at the 1 gig mark.

That may be true but read this thread,

Its easy to overcome this problem and use 98se
If you -as you seem to also have been trying to do-,
BY BURNING THE VIDEO_TS and AUDO_TS folders into the ROOT of a DVD DATA burn
THIS WORKS under 98se in NERO, PRASSI, & RECORD NOW MAX flawlessly
YOU DO NOT NEED TO EDIT any IFO's (this could be your problem if you did any altering of these files)
IF YOU CREATE YOUR OWN AUTHORED DVD VOLUME with an AUTHORING PACKAGE..
If you use such a package to deposit a authored violume to the hard drive instead of direcly to your burner, these three will WORK if you do not alter the files the authoring app creates
ALTER IFO's usually for stuff you didn't author yourself
IFO edit is only for re-authoring someone else's file (ok so you could re-purpose your own stuff with-it ) -
I've since tried creating an iso image file and burning it with Nero still with no success. I'm not having any problems with 98SE and FAT32. The problem seems to be that I get a communication failure message before anything is burned (at least that's what Nero says). Again, I don't have this problem with CDRs or data DVDs. Is it possible that there's something wrong with my hardware configuration. The Pioneer is the master on my second IDE controller with a 120 GB drive as the slave on an 80 pin cable. There's a 100 GB master and a 24X CD burner slave on my primary. I have 768MB of RAM so that shouldn't be a problem. Is it possible that a 900 MHz Athlon system just isn't fast enough for some reason? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
