  1. My AVI which I captured from a VHS tape looks good. The background is a yellow building and the detail is good. After converting to MPEG2 in Tmpgenc the yellow color bleeds all over everything and the contract and brigtness are way too much. Other tapes I have copied have been fine. I have tried numerous different settings but to no good.

Try reversing the setting on the Quantize Matrix tab. Specifically the 'Output YUV data as Basic YCbCr not CCIR601'. If it's checked, uncheck it. If it's unchecked, check it. Also, make sure you have none of hte 'click' filters enabled on the Advanced tab. Specifically the color correction options.

  3. Thanks for the suggestion but it did not help. The yellow color still washes out other colors and the contrast is still too bright. I can't understand it becasue the avi looks so good.

Are you sure the colors are not washed out in the source file? Can you post a sample somewhere of the original frame, and the converted frame?
