Hi, this is actually a 4 part question. If anyone can at least help me with any one of them I would really appreciate it thanks.
1. I have checked up my Xvid file to make sure the it is one, but the 4-CC Changer cannot open the file at all. The problem gives me a dialogue box that says “Cannot open file!” What possible explaination could be wrong that I can fix it? (Maybe reconvert it again to a Xvid file?) I want to use this program to convert my Xvid file to divX.
2. I have tried using the other method of “Frame Serving” the Xvid file with Virtualdub to convert it to divX. After waiting for a bit I do not really see any activity with my computer. Should I wait it out some more? My question is …. Eventhough I am “Frame Serving” a Xvid file does the window that tells me that VirtualDub is frame-serving eventually close as my indication that VirtualDub as finally done frame-serving?
I am asking because after I while I notice my computer not having any activity and just idling there. I give up and just hit the stop button on the dialogue window. Does something happen when it finishes frameserving?
3. Okay, while reading up on the other requests and troubleshooting with Xvid conversion with TMPGEnc and its settings to convert it to VCD on this forum. I can not seem to get it to work. I get a black screen in the preview window and when it is completed in the conversion to a VCD mpeg. All I get is a video file that is all black. What do you guys think is the problem and how should I fix it? My settings in the environment settings are :
AVI2 (OpenDML) File Reader (Priority 3)
DirectShow Multimedia File Reader (Prioritey 3)
TMPGEnc Project File Reader (Priority 1)
“everything else” (Priority 0)
AVI VFW compatibility Reader (Priority -2)
4. Finally, is there anyway to convert a Xvid file to divX? Virtualdub keeps giving an error when converting.
Sorry, for all these long winded questions. I am just having just an AWFUL hard time working around/converting/troubleshooting with Xvid. Thanks a lot in advance.

Easiest way would be to run it thro VduvMod and leave your audio as direct stream go in to the video settings and change compression to 4.12 div x. Then save out as "xxx" avi file, then encode with Tmpg as you want
This way loses slight quality but not enough that you would notice. Other way is to let DVD2SVCD version 1 build 1 to do the work for you, as this earlier version copes with xvid avi's no probs.
You need more help email me at tppearson@yahoo.co.uk
Good Luck, hope it solves your problem!

Thanks Tom for the reply,
I followed the 2 advices that you have given me and was unsuccessful.
1. Well, I did get the VdubMod and tried to convert it to divX and came across a few problems/questions.
i. When running VdubMod I had the same error when encoding with "divX 4.12" like I did with the regular VirtualDub. The error message came up as
"Error decompressing video frame 1: An unknown error occurred (may be corrupt data). (error code -100)" in the diolgue box.
ii. When I opened the VdubMod problem I did not see the audio tab where I could leave it as direct stream as you have recommended.
2. I was able to locate the older DVD2SVCD program and got the version 1.1.2 build 1 and also was also unsuccessful in my conversion.
i. Is there a guide out using this program to convert AVI files (Xvid) to VCD? Basicly what I did was went to the went to the "CONVERSION" tab hit the open file button and grabbed my .avi file and when it was trying to open it just crashed and closed the program. Did I do something wrong?
ii. In the DVD2SVCD program is there a tab for me to change the settings for TMPGEnc to convert it to VCD mpeg 1?
Again your help and everyone else in the forum is very much appreciated. Thanks.
