  1. After I convert .asf file to .mpeg with VirtualDub and TMPGEnc. The sound is fine, but the video is like broken into little squares about an inch by an inch on my tv. What is wrong with my settings, I used the template for the conversion???? Any help is appreciated.

  2. I have a similar problem ... but judging from your description, yours is much more severe.

When I do VCDs in MPEG-1, this does not happen.

I am starting to experiment with the data rate of MPEG-2 for SVCD. The default is 2520? kbps, I think. And it's set for constant quality.

Can anyone tell us if SVCDs will still play on DVD players if you change the data rate? ... if you change from constant quality to variable bit rate, or automatic variable bit rate?

I am going to do some experiments along these lines, but that will take some time. I just hope someone already has this kind of info, and can jump in with the answers.

  3. We all seem to be suffering. I can make PAL VCDs with TMPGEnc but not SVCDs. The resulting .MPG files are totally unreadable by any MPEG2 player, even TMPGEnc itself can't split them! If anyone has a PAL template that works I would appreciate it

  5. What burning s/w are u using?

I have tested the default template for SVCD PAL using
TMPGEnc and an avi or asf movie as the source. While
I cannot play the resulting mpeg2 stream back via media
player (or use the mpeg tools to split etc.), it works perfectly.

Using TMPGEnc, Nero & Apex/Hiteker 600,660,700 standalone DVD players
(note- the early AD600A model requires an internal dvd drive flash firmware upgrade to play SVCD's)
