Are you talking about FILM or VIDEO because Super 8 is a FILM format or do you mean Hi8 which is like Super VHS for the 8mm video format?

If someone gives 8mm film then I need the hardware to transfer it.
If someone gives Hi8 I need the hardware too do that to..

I need to know what is needed to do anything in this area

  9. Basically you will need hardware that is capable of playing whatever format that you want to capture, with an analogue output that can be connected to your capture card. Whether this be super8, hi8, VHS, SVHS then that is up to you to decide there is no one piece of hardware that is capable of playing all formats.
