Hi, I am completely new at this stuff so dont laugh if I ask stupid questions. I recently downloaded uh....stuff which I would like to view on my dvd player. I have a JVC XV511 and the file I'm trying to burn is an avi. Can anyone tell me if I need to make a vcd or if I can just use the divx form? I tried to use a cd-r but it doesnt work. I checked the dvd compatabilty with the search engine on this site afterwards and it said that CD-RW's should work on my player. Does that mean if I burn the divx form on the RW, it will work on the player(because some people have told me to convert it to mpg first and I'm wondering if I can get away without converting)?

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps.

No, you cannot burn any type of avi directly to disc to create a VCD. You must convert it to an Mpeg file first, then author and burn in VCD format. Check the Guides section for how to do it.

There actually are DVD players that will play Divx files but they are very rare and I think you would know if you had one.

Yes, some people are probably having a good chuckle over your question.
