Hello folks.
I purchased Dazzle Video Creator week and half ago.
I use NERO 5.5.4.0 to burn my VCD's.
I have lurked in these groups for days, mostly learning how to get around that nasty out-of-sync audio/video problem.
From others expirience, I have fixed the sync problem.
But, I cannot encode a very large file for some reason.
I edited all my preferences in NERO to accomodate larger cashe. Cashe is set to max, 999 MB and my RAm load is pushed all the way to 80%.
The best I have accomplished so far, was a 25 minute mpeg that was about 350 or so MB before encoding, 200 or so afterwards.
My specs are:
500Mhz P3
13 Gig harddrive (10 available)
256 SDRAM
Kinda stunk, waiting 3 hours for NERO to encode my 520 MB file just for it to get 100% and then error on me.
I have tried using that TNPGEnc encoder, but it will not open my mpegs made with Dazzle for some reason.
Thanks fella's
Chad

Same here. I'm using the same version of Nero. A 2Gb files failes with error "disk full", but a 1.2 GB file goes OK.
I'm defragging my C drive now. Hope it helps. -
noel, have u tried opening ur dazzle output file with virtualdub then frameserving to tmpgenc? either that or outputting the AVI in a non DV format using another codec, huffyuv or picvideo mjpeg quality 18/19.
sake, the problem you are having is probably the 2GB limitation of the OS', win95/win98, filesystem - defragging will not help. you need to use segmented AVIs or switch to an OS that will support larger files (winNT, win2K).

I have the exact same problem with Nero 5.5.4. I am running Windows 2000 with 10+gigs free and the drive is formatted with NTFS. I dont think my issue is with file size limits of the OS.
The only thing I can think of is the original video is very high quality compressed to the max, and you are trying to encode it to VCD which will expand the file. Also I'm not sure if the error is related to the free space left on the CD or your hard drive.
Any ideas? -
Being a newbie to this type of computing, I have tried several things. I even tried that TMPGEnc.....which I couldn't get my Dazzle mpeg's to open with it (probably just because I didn't know what setting to change).
But here is what I have done so far:
Using Dazzle via USB port, I can only achieve approx 11.5 minutes of a recording without losing audio/video sync.
My settings in the VCD template are at their defaults.
Since I am converting concerts at this point in time, this method is suitable for me. I can record a couple songs, then stop.
Now, here is what I have done that I haven't seen any other Dazzle users boast about:
Once I get approx 650 megs worth of audio/video recorded I then use Dazzles Producer.
Its really easy...just drag and drop. By using the Producer, you can edit pauses out and whatknot to create one long non-stop movie. To finalize the producing, it goes by in just minutes since I used Dazzles template. In my honest opinion, audio/video quality is just as good as some of my prior tests running a higher bitrate, then spending 5 hours re-encoding.
Now, here's another tip....
Since everyone gets the nasty audio/video sync problem with Dazzle..here's what I did to corect that in a movie sequence longer than 11.5 minutes:
I created a new template in Dazzle.
I pretty much used a Video CD template, but I changed the bitrate to 290000. That obviously records a much higher quality segment.
Example I tried this method on was, Making Michael Jacksons Thiller VHS. (NO I don't luv MJ, I like the special effects done by Rick Baker
Anyways if ya'll are done laughing at me, The Thriller music video is almost 14 minutes long, then the rest of the 60 minute video is behind-the-scenes.
I recorded the music video at the higher bitrate 290000.
Then I changed templates back to standard vcd bitrate of 115000 to record my 5-10 minute segments of behind-the-scenes.
Once I had it all recorded, I used Dazzles Producer.
Drag and Drop all movie clips and then just edit the pauses out to create a seamless movie.
When I was ready to finalize the movie, it did have to "re-encode" the music video portion that I recorded at the higher bitrate....but it only took minutes on my pc.
I don't remember exactly how long it was to make the final production, but I was burning a CD within the half hour.
Lastly, one other thing I have always done in my computing....
Depending onthe load I place upon my machines, I always shutdown and restart before doing another project.
For Thriller, I recorded all video segments then shutdown/restarted the PC.
Then I edited them, then went to Nero to compile/burn the CD.
Just from expirience, If I don't clear out memory often (and I have 256 megs of ram) I will wear out my machine.
Oh yea, one last detail....
I ran a test with Dazzle to see how long of a segment I could record, before audio/video sync went bad.
I used my custom template for vcd, the hihger bitrate of 290000 and recorded 44 minutes non-stop.
I then used Dazzles producer software to re-encode to vcd standards.
It worked! and in a timely fashion as compared to Nero.
Hell, Nero wouldn't do the file at all because I would get that nasty disk full error.
MY end result was not real pleasing...but I think it was due to the age of the vhs I was capturing.
But thats something for ya'll to play with.
Cheers

use dvd2avi to frame serve your dazle mpeg into tmpge and see if that works.
-
Defrag did not help. I have captured now in 15 minute files and that goes OK. It's only annoying that I cannot simply capture the whole tape/movie at once
-
With my 500 P3 256 mges RAM 10 gigs available, Dazzle USB port, I created a custom template similar to Video CD, but I changed the bitrate to 290000.
With that, I recorded 44 minutes non-stop.
Didn't even bother doing the post processing for audio...I used the Real time option.
Since the mpeg created is not VCD standards, I used Movie Star's Producer option.
If ya haven't used it yet, I suggest ya play with it.
I am by far an expert, but when I drag & drop a media project into the producer's editing tab, I just click the "produce" button and select Video CD.
That re-encodes" the file and in a very timely fashion. Under 1/2 hour on my machine.
Now, I have only doen that once and my movie looked a bit pixelated......but I suspect it was just the VHS source itself. It was a high generation tape that has lived long enough
I plan on doing another 40+ minute recording the next free chance I get...I'll post my results.
Cheers

Isn't the AVI limit 2GB or 20 minutes. How can you capture 44 minutes at once? So my issue was purely related to the AVI limit.
PS
AMD TBird 1.2@1.466 (really fast encoder)
512MB RAM
IBM 7200rpm 30GB IBM. 20GB left. I'm going to get a second one soon.

Well, unless I just haven't figured it out yet, Dazzle USB doesn't capture in AVI format (or does it?)
All my captures regardless of bitrate, etc.. have been mpeg.

like i stated earlier, if you are running into that 2GB file size limitation when capturing to AVI, you need to capture to segmented AVIs or capture in a different OS...
