I've played with authoring a bit, but only my original stuff. Now I've been given an AC-3 DVD with tv episodes, but they're in the wrong order on the menu.

What software do I need to rearrange the episodes and reauthor the series to new discs?

Is there a guide, by chance?

    Thanks for any help!

There is a program called DVD2DVDR. In a brief session in which I tried it out, I realize it converts the contents of a DVD into the element streams and a Scenarist script you can then import into Scenarist. Once you do that, it's a piece of cake to change sequence.

In theory, you can do the same thing with IFOEdit. I've yet to understand what this program does, but I think it will allow you to do what you want. Post an IFOEdit question for IFOEdit experts and probably you will get an answer.

My approach to episodes is simplistic (in result), but the process is perhaps a bit too much. I only want to keep the episode video and audio with subtitles and a very simple menu.

I use DVD2One to convert each episode into a separate DVD without compression.
Then SmartRipper to demux each episode into video and audio streams.
Then Subrip to create Scenarist subtitle scripts plus the bitmaps.
Then re-encode the video streams with Mainconcept (it accepts MPEG-2 streams).
Then import the whole lot into scenarist to do the authoring.
The menu is done by capturing an appropriate frame from the VOB containing the menu sequence where each episode is selected.
To enter chapterpoints, I use the info.txt file Smartripper produces for each sequence and manually ( ) enter them into Scenarist. I have to try ScenChap that is doing it automatically.
    It's a lot of work
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
