I'm testing a new software that can convert asf to avi without re-compressing. it works pretty much like virtualdub1.4c without all those error messages.
Unlike virtualdub, this software does not decode Audio & Video data. Therefore it can "blindly" convert asf & wmv files to avi.
Asf files that are encoded with MPEG-4 V2 and V3 works fine after conversion. Thanks to divx.
Trouble begins when I convert wmv files into avi.
When I open this avi with media player, the media player connects to microsoft and downloads a codec and install it. but when it trys to open the file, it gives an error that there are no codec for this file format. it's intersting that audio works fine for this file. it seems like there is a codec for audio in divx package, that works for wmv files..
As you know, divx is a hacked version of microsoft mpeg4 codec. I'm looking for the same thing for wmv1/wmv2 codec.
Thanks
