Housepig Records
out now:
Various Artists "Six Doors"
Unicorn "Playing With Light" -
i am doing the same movie.
I just chose to remove menu's , and the extra soundtracks (dts, 2.0 and 3 track's of commentary)
Resulted in god quality !! -
I used DVDDecrypter, VOBEdit, IFOEdit, and then ran it through IC7, the results were much better than I thought it would be... Make sure you use Get VTS Sectors or the chapters will be screwed up... Good luck and have fun learning the process...

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it. -
Go to my webpage and read the "ripping LotR Extended Version" guide I wrote
http://encoding.n3.net <-- for all your DVD and CD backup needs! -

I put mine on 2 DVD's. I you have or are going to purchase a big screen HDTV I wouldn't put all that on one dvd-r. Quality noticeable on a tv like that.

If you're only after the main movie and want the best quality (not God quality but the best humanly possible) you could rip the movie with DVD Toolbox and then run the whole thing through DVD2DVD-R (Or you could just try DVD2DVD-R without DVDToolbox).

Anyway, DVDshrink or DVD2one work fine. Just use the newest versions. Burn with newest Nero. Done.
I agree with txpharoah. I use DVDShrink to rip just main movie then use DVD2One to downsize to exactly 4.36GB then burn with Nero Express.
Sounds easy -
You guys arn't getting his question. The movie is on two disks not one. How do you take a movie that is on two disks or has half on one side and half on the other side. I would like to know too. Do you have to use and IFO editor or a program like that? Will you have to manualy compute the re-encode size in order to get each disk to combine onto 1 dvd-r?
-
You can use TMPGEnc DVD Author to turn your movie into 2 .mpg (1st .mpg from disc 1 and 2nd .mpg rom disc 2) Then reauthor with same program and shrink it with dvd2one, instant copy, dvd shrink ect.

I don't think we should compress 2 dvds and 2 layers each going to only 1 dvd-r. What would happen with the quality????
We should do it to 2 dvd-rs!!!
Anyway, you still want to do it to only 1 dvd-r, you can use TMPGEnc DVD Author.
First, use DVDShrink rip only movies to HD
Second, use DVD2One compress each movie to 2200MB to 2 different folders.
Final, use TMPGEnc DVD Author. You'l have menu with that. -
If you are dead set on putting it on one DVD-R, you will need to join the vob files from the two disks just as you would with a flipper. You need vobedit to join them, and then ifoedit to create the new vobs and ifos. After doing that you have a compliant DVD and you just need to put it through an encoder like DVD2One, IC7, etc. Although, with all this compression, I would probably want to use TMPGEnc, or CCE to get the best quality possible. Look for a guide on backing up flippers, and use those same instructions and it should work fine.
