  1. I own a cheap AVerDVD EZ Maker. After installing the card, I plugged my S-Video cable into my camcorder, then into my capture card, and captured video, but it was in black and white!

Composite video captures in color fine, but I want to use S-Video for higher quality.

YES, I've checked to make sure I'm capturing in NTSC since I'm in NTSC land. YES, I've check the cable, all pins are intact (in fact, the cable's gold plated). YES, the settings seem to be all correct; I was using Ulead MovieStudio. YES, my camcorder is fine since my other even cheaper capture device captured in color.

    Advice anyone?

    Thanks!

  2. I remember I had a similar problem with my ReplayTV. The problem was that somehow my S-Video cable went bad...it had worked before, but somehow the cable started only putting out Black & White.

Moral of the story is, try a different cable, you might be suprised...

  3. I have the exact same capture card and capture from the s-video output of my JVC VHS recorder (rare to find a VHS with s-video out). It works great for me so my guess is a bad cable, or perhaps you just got a defective AVer capture card.

  4. Actually, I should've mentioned that when I used the S-Video cable to test with a VCR, and then capture some video with a DVC 80, it worked fine and in color. So it seems like it isn't the cable.

Too bad I can't exchange the card being that:
1.) AVer's tech support really stinks
2.) I misplaced the Installation CD so all the pieces aren't intact
3.) The UPC is gone because I sent it in for a rebate

    Advice anyone?

    Thanks!

  5. I'd still try a second cable...if the second cable doesn't work, then you'll know it's a defective S-Video input on the card.

    Good Luck!

Yes, either cable or port. Is it dirty? Any packing foam in the holes maybe?

  7. Na, took a look at the card. It's clean, no foam, no dust, no nothing!

    Advice anyone?

    Thanks!

  8. It really is a bad C pin on one of your cables or ports. Really. Anyone who has done extensive use of S-Video devices knows this one. You have hot wires in your S-Video cable. Y and C. The C wire is not making a connection somewhere. If you try multiple cables and it's the same and the VCR outputs in color over S-Video to other devices, then it is the connector on the card.

  9. Hmm, must be the card because the cable works fine everywhere else. Unfortunately, I can't exchange the card since I lost the installation CD, and the UPC label is gone when I sent it in for a rebate. DARN!

    Any other advice?

    Thanks!

Just take the card back if you can. These Aver cards are cheap crap. I have one solely as a toy or backup to my real capture card. It's probably broken.

  12. Yeah, the question is IF. CompUSA's policy requires that all parts be in the box when you return it. I'm not sure if I can send it directly to AVer. Their offices are literally down the freeway from me, but is it worth is to pay for shipping and stuff on a card that's worth $10?

  13. If it is within the timeframe of CompUSA return policy, just ask them if they can swap the card from a new box. Explain to them that they can keep the box, UPC, CD and everything else from the new box. Just simply exchange the card itself. Same as if you bought another retail box from them and just did it yourself and returned the bad card in the newer packaging.

  14. Or purchase another and swap out the defective one when returning it. Hopefully, the second one will work since you'll still be stuck with one.
