  1. I downloaded an avi file. I want to convert from avi to VCD.

When I try to load the avi file for video source I get the error:
File "UFC - Divx.avi" can not open, or unsupported.

I get this error msg. w/ 3 avi files so far.
I was sucessful w/ converting 5 avi files.

    SPEC:
    Win XP
    tmpgenc 2.53

    For VFAPI Plugin:
    DirectShow Multimedia file reader Priority:2
    Avi2(OpenDML) File Reader Priority:1
    BMP/PPM/TGA/JPG File Reader Priority:0
    Wave File REader Priority:0
    DVD2AVI Project File Reader 1.76 DVD2AVI.vfp Priority:0
    TMPGEnc Project File REader 2.53 (Tmpgenc.vfp) Priority:0
AVI VFW compatibility Reader Priority: -2

Don't know if avi file is XVID or not, but I installed xvid codec already.

BTW: I tried searching the forum for this question, with no luck. And I read over 10 posts regarding AVI conversion, it doesn't seem to help.

    ANy input is appreciated.

  2. Movie play from beginning to end okay, but still TMPGenc reject it.

per one of the post, I installed Gspot and Avi codec to determine what codec I need.

    For Gspot, under video format:
    Codec 4CCdiv3
    Name DivX 3 Low-Motion
    Stat: 3 codecs istalled
    ffdshow Mpeg-4 Video
    DivX Decoder Filter
    DivX Decoder Filter

    Bitrate 1369 kb/FPS 23.97 Qf 0.290 bits/pixel

    Audio Format
    Stream 1>
    Name 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer
    Stat: 2 compatible codecs installed
Fraunhofer IIS MPEG LAYER-3 Codec (advanced)
    Bitrate 143 kb/s (71/ch x 2ch) VBR FS 48000 Hz

When trying to use AVIcodec detailed information I get the err. msg:
    UFC.DIVX.avi is incomplete (too small)

I just installed FFDshow codec, however problem still unsolved.

    PLEASE HELP...

  3. i believe it's because the avi audio format VBR. Open up the AVI in Virtualdub, and it would say that it will convert the audio from VBR to CBR. Choose Video and Audio to Direct Stream Copy so that it will not convert the file, then save the AVI file to another name. Then, you should be able to convert the new AVI file to VCD.

    Hope that helps.
