I have two problems usaing TMPEnc to convert AVI files to S-VCD for use on a DVD-Player (TMPGEnc 12j):
1.) A new AVI that I have received (it seems to be encoded with the new Divx4.1) is not accepted by TMPEnc ("... not supported". What can I do ??
2.) I converted a lot of AVIS to either VCD or SVCD, but always the same problem: There are several points in the movie when video and audio go out of sync, the video runs very fast for a moment and then v and a are out of sync for a couple of minutes. I have read a lot of how-to's but never found a solution. For example, the default template for pal-svcd sets TMPEnc to "constant quality", but the how-to's on this page suggest to set it to a constant bitrate (you have to calculate the bitrate first according to the lenght of the video)
Does anybody have a clue for me?? Thanks a lot!!!

  2. I had the same problem with TMPEnc.
Then i removed Divx-codec 4, and installed divx 3.11 again.
And from then i had no problems at all.

The problem seems to be with Divx 4.

  3. Try frameserving it, either with AviSynth:
    -Get and install AviSynth
    -Create an .avs file:
    AviSource("C:\YOURDIR\YOURMOVIE.AVI&quot
    ConvertToRGB
-Open the .avs file in TMPGEnc.

If that doesn't work, frameserve from VirtualDub:
-Run AuxSetup.exe from your virtualdub directory
    -Install AVIFile frameclient support, exit
    -Launch VirtualDub, load YOURMOVIE.AVI
-From the "File" menu select "Start frameserving"
-Accept the default name (usually YOURMOVIE.AVI)
-Save a .vdr file. YOU MUST TYPE THE FILENAME
    INCLUDING THE EXTENSION (i.e.: YOURMOVIE.VDR)
    -Open YOURMOVIE.VDR from TMPGEnc.

  4. On second thought, it might be enought to use
the AVI VFW compatiblity reader instead of the OpenDML
    reader.

****TRY THIS FIRST**** instead of frameserving:
    -Launch TMPGEnc, ->Environmental setting, ->VFAPI plug-ins
-Right click, bump the AVI VFW compatiblity reader
    to a priority of 0.
-Lower the OpenDML reader to -1
-Lower the DirectShow File reader to -2.

    @mperathoner for you second question
This sound like the typical "SVCD offset scans" bug of tmpegecn...
You see, tmpegenc don't add some frames, which helps for the synch between A/V.
One solution is de multiplexx the ready mpeg-2 file with tmpegenc, and then re-multiplexx it with BBMEG, as a SVCD....
    That fix the problem.
For "how to", see the guides....

    thanks for all Your responses
To MuTTLeY: I cannot delete Divx 4.1 since the newer avis I have received are encoded with it ant won't run with 3.11!

to Tlaloc : thanks!! Your "second thought" did it, the avi is now accepted!!

To SatStorm: thanks for Your advice, I will give it a try!!

DO YOU RECOMMEND - when converting an avi to svcd with TMPEnc - leaving the Settings to "constant quality", which is the default, or to change it to "constant bitrate", as advised in the VCDhelp to-do ???
