I need some help with the Noise Reduction settings/options in VirtualDub and its filters. I capture Simpsons EPs into AVI format and wish to frameserve (with filters enabled, of course) to CCE. But I want to perform Noise Reduction filtering in VirtualDub. I wanted to know what settings/filters I should use. I try messing around with various Noise Reduction filters such as Temporal Smoother, Dynamic Noise Reduction, and others, but I get odd results like shadowing and such. Please provide any advice. =)

Depending on how different your definition of 'noise' is from mine, I use Donald Graft's Smart smoother. You can get it here. You'll have to play with the settings to get your desired effect.
I think his web page is the now-official VirtualDub plug-in site.

Is the 'Smart Smoother' good at reducing "snow" in a TV broadcast caused by things like noisy electric motors ?
That type of noise is a killer for mpeg compression, because it's so random.
