I've had this computer for a while and have burned many vcds and such on it. But when I install my dvd-rom drive up here to backup some dvds, Nero and VCD-easy and even Roxio all can't seem to find my dvd RECORDER. I've installed daemon tools and tried a cd-to-cd copy as suggested somewhere else and still it said it could not find the burner. Im sure the burner is plugged in and operational. Ive reinstalled my aspi drivers for XP and nothing yet. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you all very berry much.

  3. Try to remove the IDE controller in the control panel/Device Manager. Then reboot, let windows automatically detect it.

There seem to be 3 IDE Controllers, they are

    Intel(R) 82801DB Ultra ATA Storage Controller 24CB

    Primary IDE Channel

    Secondary IDE Channel

Which one do I disable and how would I go about doing this.

I hate to be annoying, but I removed it and rebooted twice and it seemed like it worked but it did not. I could not see it listed in any of my burner programs or the desktop. Any other ideas? The burner opens and closes but nothing pops up when I put in a cd that has auto play on it. Thank you very much.

Not sure I am reading your post right?? did U add another DVD drive to your system? If so did u set the drive for slave or master? If you have one master already installed on that contoller then U need to set the additional drive as slave via the jumpers on the back of the drive. Let us know.

I had just a burner. I added a dvd rom (reader not writer). I dont think I did any of this slave and master buisiness. Well, somone else installed this for me, and I dont thin they did it. I put the dvd rom in an empty slot that has never been used on the computer before. I did not move the burner. Any ideas?

You will want the DVD rom and the burner on the same IDE (secondary). Only keep your hard drives on the primary IDE. The drives will have some jumper settings on the back by where the IDE ribbon cable plugs into the device.
You will probably have to take them out of the case and read on the drive itself as to which jumper configuration is for master or slave. It doesn't matter which one is which, I have my burner as IDE 2 master and DVD rom as IDE 2 slave.
Just be sure and unplug the PC before you crack open the case.
