  1. I've had the same problem with my ATI AIW 128 Pro. It really didn't matter too much on the quality, after about 20 mintues the audio had drifted off enough to notice. This happened with several different computer configurations.

My final solution was to ditch trying to capture to MPEG and use AVI_IO to capture to AVI files and then convert them to MPEG using TMPGEnc. The quality of the final product was much better than the direct to MPEG capture. At least the AIW I have does a fine job capturing to AVI.

Use HuffYUV or PIC MJPEG codec (look in tools to the left) to save some on the hard drive space. You could try capturing to the VCR2 codec, but I had trouble with it locking up in TMPGEnc.

I'm not sure about the muffled audio problem unless your record volume is turned down too low.

  2. I set up my ATI AIW and it's been nothing but trouble, I even went out and bought a 900 AMD before getting the card expecting everything to be great. I've had troubles with the audio sounding muffled, and I'm having another problem.

When I record as an MPG, everything seems mostly fine. But when I record as a MPEG2, the audio doesn't come close to matching the video. The higher the quality of the video, the more out of sync the two are. I have the newest drivers and the newest version of DirectX. Please someone give me some advice what should be the next thing I should try out.

  3. I had the same audio drift problem. MPEG1 audio was fine. MPEG2 audio would drift very badly. I tried all of ATI's suggestions, which didn't help. Just for kicks, I downloaded and installed the ATI DVD player software (ver. 4.1) and the problem was gone. I don't have a dvd player in the system, but it seems that the software is still needed for proper MPEG2 encoding.

I haven't had any trouble with muffled audio. If you haven't tried this, open the Windows volume control window and select Properties under the Options menu. Select Recording, click OK and check the record levels.

  4. I'll try these suggestions later when I have the chance... and later on today I'll capture something and show you guys what I'm talking about with the muffled "airy" kind of sound I'm getting. It doesn't sound like that when watching the TV, only when capturing. Also, I've tried to volume controls and that doesn't seem to make too much of a difference, just makes the sound lower or higher, but still "airy". I'll post back later tonight though.

  5. I might just be really slow, but I went all over the ATI.com website and I can't find where to download the ATI DVD player software ver. 4.1, or any version for that matter. Can someone recommend to me where to download it from?
