Avi to mpeg conversion help

I have recently downloaded lord of the ring: two towers off kazaa. I don't have that much space left on my harddrive, so i wanted to convert the movie into vcds. However when i convert the first part of the movie, the sound does not match well with the video. Strangely, when i converted the second part of the movie, the sound matched up perfectly. I wonder what i did wrong. I used TmpgEnc and followed the instruction on this site carefully. I extracted the wav file using virtualdub and then used TmpgEnc. Ahhh what is the problem?
