Hi!
For the past 2 weeks, I have been trying to burn DVD's. Just normal DVD-5s using DVD Decryptor and some DVD-ROMS using VOB Instant copy.
I think I hold the world record for error messages. I/O errors, drive communication, invalid write address, invalid media, etc. Then instant copy gave me a message and an idea

I tried to change the 40 pin lead to an 80 pin lead. Now everything works like a charm. Not a single error and I have burned a couple of discs all morning. I'm using unbranded ritek g03 at 0.88p a disc, windows 2000, pioneer a05, and xp1400.
Anyone have similar problems ? Does everyone use 80 pin cables and I did'nt know ?

If you mean you changed the cable on the HDD to 80pin then yes...I believe everyone uses 80pin cables for modern HDD's to get the max transfer rate from them....if you meant DVD/CD-ROM then no...I think 40pin is standard for those.

For today's HDD, it's always much better to use the 80-pin cable to reduce noise on the cable. What you have seen with 40-pin cable is most likely lot of CRC errors during UDMA transfer, caused by bad cable.
However, you probably don't know whether the new 80-pin cable got rid of all CRC errors or reduce them.
The 80-pin can also be used for DVD/CD drives as well, but not necessary. Although this cable has 80 pins, only 40 pins are actually used, the others are ground lines that separate the mandatory 40 lines of the ATA interface.ktnwin - PATIENCE
