I am relatively new to computers and video editing and have recently installed a Plextor burner to my PC. I use Pinnacle Studio 8 and Ulead Video Studio 6 to do my editing and burning. I get good play back results when played back on my standalone Pioneer 350 player. My Question is: Am I missing out on anything, i.e. reading articles and looking through the forums on this splendid site I tend to find some ways of creating video a little heavy going. Should I stick to my present software or are there better ways.

I assume by "heavy going" you mean slow rendering of the video, if so, the only thing it depends on is hardware, mainly CPU and memory. You could also take in account compression, the more you compress it, the more CPU time it will take, and at DVD frame size it's a slow process. One of my producitions are 2 hours, this took approximatly 14+38 hours to render into DVD MPEG-2 format using the highest quality settings on my AMD 900 w/ 640 mb RAM
Either up your hardware specs or be more patient =)
