Hi,
What would be the best way to remove the VIDEO_TS.VOB file from a DVD File set ??
In my case we're talking about the Dutch Region 2 version of The Mask Of Zorro. The VIDEO_TS.VOB file contains copyright warnings and both trailers for the movie (which aren't used since they are also elsewhere on the disc...) and i want whis file removed from the file set.
What i did is delete (rename) the VIDEO_TS.* file and create a new video manager (VIDEO_TS.IFO + BUP) with DVD Toolbox. This work, but not like i want to. This way causes the DVD to start the main movie as first play item, and i want the menu (VTS_01_0.VOB) to be the first play item.

Use IFOEdit (or DVDShrink). There are guides to both to the left under DVD Rip. You do not need to re-encode, IFOEdit (or you can set DVDShrink to no compression) will generate a new VIDEO_TS folder with only the VOB IDs that you choose to keep (the rest will be stripped out).

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. But ehrm this doesn't really help me.....
I've checked the guides. I know pretty much about re-encoding and editing stuff on dvd's, but i can't seem to figure out how to change the first play item correctly.
I mean it's probably just one tiny little setting in IFOedit, but i just haven't manegent to find it.
If you know the answer please tell me, it's so easy to refer to the guides.

Do you mean this?
Okay, lets go for the VIDEO_TS.VOB first.
Lets say your VIDEO_TS.VOB containes 3 short movies.
All does have an own VOB-ID!
With the tool 'Vobrator' you are able to wonderfully check, which VOB-ID has got which movie, by previewing it.
So lets say for example:
VOB-ID 1 -> Warner welcome screen
VOB-ID 2 -> anoying copyright warning
VOB-ID 3 -> Sony production logo
To remove that copyright screen, load VIDEO_TS.IFO with IfoEdit, and in scroll down the VMG_Overview to the 'Menu language Unit' section.
Lets say for example, you see this:
Language menu Unit 1 [English]
Menu 1: [Title Menu] (entry PGC)
Menu 2: [entry only] (programs 1) (Cells 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 1)
Menu 3: [entry only] (programs 1) (Cells 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 2)
Menu 4: [entry only] (programs 1) (Cells 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 3)
Now simply 'one-click' on the line that contains Menu 3, and press the button 'Delete playback'.
You will see, that the line changes to:
Menu 3: [entry only] (programs 0) (Cells 0)
That's it. Save the Ifo file, and enjoy your DVD without anoying warnings.
PS: It works the same way for the Title-Set Menus AND titleset VOB-ID's too.
From ifoedit guide.
Hello. -
Thanks zanzarame for the great explanation,
But... this i already knew
The problem is i want to DELETE/REMOVE the VIDEO_TS.VOB file completely. Because it contains play items not even used on the DVD and takes up a lot of space. Bij Disabling playitems, they are not removed.
What i did in the above mentioned post with DVDToolbox works (almost). It creates a VIDEO_TS.IFO which points to the first vob set (VTS_01_xx). But it starts the main movie (VTS_01_1.VOB) instead of going to the main menu of the dvd (VTS_01_0.VOB). So that is what i need changed.

Thanx everyone for the replies.
I just found out myself
For those who want to know:
You just open the VIDEO_TS.IFO in IFOedit and in the top screen select
VIDEO_TS.IFO --> VMGM_MAT --> First Play PGC
There change the command to "(JumpSS_VTSM) Jump To Titleset Menu"
And Select the Title Nr and TitleSet Nr which contains the menu and set Menu: to root.
Now... that wasn't so difficult was it.....
