I have some DVD's I created , and I lost the Mpeg2 files to make them. I need a way to get the Vob back to Mpeg. I tried vobedit, but it didnt work. Is there a easy way to get my raw mpeg2 files back?
Thanks

You can use Virtual Dub and frameserve it to TMPGEnc, and save as MPEG-2.

Depending on your needs, it could be as simple as changing the extension to .mpg.
Many programs will accept VOB's by doing this. Ex. mpeg2vcr can edit VOB's this way, DVD Workshop will accept VOB's this way also.I don't have a bad attitude...

Demux the Vobs (with Vob-edit) into separate video and audio files. Then remux them as mpegs (with BBmpeg or TMPGenc).

Try TMPGEnc's DVD Author program. It will display the main tracks on a dvdr and, also extract the mpegs. The mpegs can be reused "as is" in the program or be demuxed to be used in another authoring program. It has a thirty day trial, so you have some time to experiment.

I am trying to do the same thing. I love TMPGEnc DVD Author as its editor is wonderful. No rendering and I can edit mpeg2 and output DVD VOB files. And I like the menus I can create. However, I see no way that DVD Author can extract mpeg from vob files. What is the method to create mpeg from vob?

This vob to mpeg is tricky. I have been reading and reading and cant seem to get a good process.
I tried dvd shrink.. i like the program to get the vob from a dvd. But how can you use this to take the vob and convert to mpeg?? I have tried to use dvd2avi and tmpgne.. and I will get the mv2 and an ac3 (?)... but when I put it back together into a mpeg.. i get no sound? What in the world am I doing wrong. There has to be an easier way?? -
TMPGEnc's DVD Author does, in deed, extract an mpeg from vobs. (In certain cases, you will get a warning regarding the bitrate being too high when reauthoring a disc and outputting it back into vobs which doesn't make sense to me because it's essentially the original source material which worked fine in the first place!)
The reason you cannot use TMPGEnc to mux an m2v with an ac3 track stripped from vobs is because they are not truly elementary streams. (At least, that's the conclusion I've come to when trying to do it myself.) However, you can use dvd2avi to extract the soundtrack to wav, then create an mp2 using toolame.
When you have encoded elementary streams with TMPGEnc, you can mux the m2v and ac3 streams. In my case, I coverted the mp2 to wav, then converted the wav to ac3 using Sonic Foundry's Soft Encode. I think what causes the problem with remuxing original source material is the padding stream, subtitles and various extraneous material within the original files. I don't think they are "elementary" streams like TMPGEnc produces.
Anyone care to enlighten us all?
