  1. I just read a bit on 24 fps and pulldown flags for NTSC material. My question is this: Could I capture everthing at 24fps and use a pulldown flag to playback correctly on my DVD player? This way I could either add bitrate or add length.

If you are talking about capturing with some sort of video input on the computer then no you can't capture at 24fps (actually it is 23.976fps) because all NTSC video is 30fps (actually 29.97fps)

So you have to capture at 30fps BUT some material can be brought back to 24fps from 30fps using a process called IVTC (inverse telecine)

So do a search for IVTC or inverse telecine for more information.

Actually, you can capture at a lower framerate, but you would be dropping frames to capture at a lower framerate. You must capture your source at 29.97. IF your source is telecined, and not interlaced, then you can run inverse telecine to restore it to 23.976. If your capture is true interlaced material, then you should leave it as is.

You can find more info here on Inverse Telecine ( www.lukesvideo.com ).

You can perform IVTC in VirtualDub, and AVISynth. VirtualDub is the easiest method for newbies. You can find more info in the GUIDES section. If you get lost, just post in the forum.
