    Hi
I got this program to re-encode DIVX/XVIDAVI to mpg.
I use mainconcept standalone encoder but it doesn't keep the aspect ratio. I've been led to believe this program does.

Can anyone give me a quick simple guide to using this program?
I just want to open the avi then encode it to VCD Pal.
    Nothing else.
At the moment I'm being a bit of a muppet and I can't even see how to insert the video.

    Cheers

  2. use tmpgenc instead its far simpler more flexible and its free for encoding Vcd and its probably better than mainactor.

This program uses the main concept encoder which is a lot faster than TMPGenc and does not require the audio on divx/avi to be stripped first.
So my request stands any help appreciated.

I also understand Video Studio 6 uses mainconcept encoder??
Does this program keep aspect ratio??

    Cheers

It can't add black borders if your source is widescreen(keep the original aspect ratio). Then you must use avisynth or virtualdub first and then frameserve to mainconcept.

Think I'll just go back to extracting the audio to wav and using TMPGEnc.
I was looking for a hassle free way which would be there if Maincncept standalone kept the aspect ratio on VCD.
Strangely it keeps it if u encode to mpeg1.

he is using mainactor 5, not main concept standalone encoder ..

main actor is a NLE app that is somewhat like a video factory/ ulead type of program

    http://www.mainconcept.com/mainactor_v5.shtml

on this page is a ton of users guides and tutorials for mainactor 5

    manual is here http://downloads.mainconcept.com/mactren.zip (20megs)

okey, I meant the standalone encoder not the mainactor editing tool. Mainactor should probably fix it.
