  1. I have a non encrypted .VOB file on my hard disk that contains 16 short movies, I wan't to convert them into 16 seperate MPEG4 movies format using ffmpegX. Is there an easy way to do this? I am unsure how you convert just one chapter of a .VOB into a movie.

  2. Convert each chapter by filling the Chap: from-to fields, ie 1-1, 2-2, 3-3.

  3. I tried that, but each time it encoded the whole .VOB regardless of the chapter setting. I think the .VOB file came from a unix box via vobcopy, could that have trashed the chapter markers? I don't know of any VOB splitting tools, so what format should I encode the video into with ffmpegX to give me the best chance of breaking it up back to chapters after encoding?

I seem to recall that Quicktime does not like to cut an paste sections from some formats into a new movie. I do have some other tools like Final Cut and DVDSP, but they are very fussy about input formats.

Were you using the mencoder mpeg-4 codec? If yes then there are no chapters in your VOB, use the Split tool to split the encoded avi.
