I've D/L'd all the BMW Films in WMV format except for 'The Follow' which I could only find as MOV. I'm having enormous trouble converting these WMV files to any other format with the intention of VCDing them for showing on my DVD player.

WMV file plays in WMP fine.

I have tried the following tools for conversion thus far:

    ASFTools v3.10:
    1) Will re-encode the WMV file to MPEG4-v3 format successfully. Resultant MPEG4-v3 file plays fine in WMP
    2) Will extract the audio from WMV file and save it as WAV successfully (according to ASFTools). Cannot play resulting WAV file in anything on the computer.

    TMPGEnc Plus v2.512.52.161:
    1) Will accept the MPEG4-v3 file as input for video and converts it successfully.
    2) Will not accept the MPEG4-v3 file or WAV file as input for audio. Error is "can not open or is unsupported"

    VirtualDub verions 1.3c & 1.5.1:
Neither will open either the original WMV file or the ASFTools re-encoded MPEG4-v3 file.

Converting the video portion doesn't appear to be a problem but the audio is. It may just be a codec problem for the WAV file on my computer, but how do I find the right codec? GSpot & AVIcodec are both useless for analysing WAV files.

Please help if you have any experience with converting these BMW Films WMV files.

P.S. I have read all the previous posts about converting the BMW Films and tried everything in them but most of it is about the MOV format versions. I don't want to have to re-download them all again in another format just to be able to convert them. There must be a way of converting the WMVs.

    Thanks,

    DRP

you can use stoik video convertor available at the left in tools. or you can change the .wmv extension to .asf and vdub and tmpg might open them. or you can open in windows movie maker. sav as .wmv then change the extension to .asf and open in tmpgenc.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried Stoik Video Converter and while it converted the video fine (as does ASFTools, Nero & TMPGEnc BTW) the end result comes without any audio at all regardless of what audio compressor I select.

I have tried the renaming WMV to ASF thing as well after reading the other suggestions in previous posts but this doesn't work either. I don't have Windows Movie Maker, so I haven't tried that. Have you actually suceeded in converting these WMV files using this program?

I'm not sure if yall know or not but the DVD of all the short films is available for a very nominal fee of $3.75 / 3.17€; or better yet if you own or lease a BMW it's free. This might save you some trouble and you get great quaility.

Thanks, but I'm in Australia and I don't have any relatives or know anyone in either Puerto Rico or the USA, so I'm a bit stuck.
