  2. I have an 1100w and it's played everything I've put in it (except for mimiDVD). Apex discontinued VCD support some time ago, so you may want to look at another brand for VCD. If you are going to buy used, I'd buy that apex player that had a 3 disk changer. I can't remember the model # though. They got down to about $100... Look here for Apex...

I have been very happy with the Sony DVP-NS315. They go for about $80 now in Los Angeles. I purchased one to replace my Denon 1500 after it would not play DVD-Rs and now I recommend my friends and family purchase it if they want to borrow any of my video collection.

It plays everything I have thrown at it except SVCD; however I gave up on SVCD as it is hard to create on the Mac and now I can purchase DVD-Rs in quantity at $1 per.

It plays VCDs, CD-Audio, CD-R Audio or MP3, CD-RW Audio or MP3 (it shows the MP3 data info on its LCD screen and on the TV screen), DVD-Rs and DVD-RWs (I have not tried DVD+RW). It even plays multi-hours DVDs that I author from MPEG-1 files.

It is single disc only and does not have component output. The remote is basic, but has everything I need when watching disks.

And, of course, it's Sony -- no baloney!

    Apex 1100 is good
    Apex 1200 is CRAP

Apex 5131 is amazing!! this is what i have
all the features of apex players (plays everything you can ever want, and then some) plus its a 3 disk changer perfect for svcd's because you just push a button on the remote and it goes to the next disk

walmart.com has it for around 90 dollars. well worth it
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Its the best dvd player I have owned thus far.

    hope you like it!

One piece of advice, the DVD DIGEST button on the remote, thats really MENU

took me some time to figure that out after I was disgusted that the player has a MENU button on it but the remote doesnt!!!!!!!!!!

    Will save you some frustration.

Oh the other thing, the remote MUST be held level with your dvd player to work. Just a sideefect of having that piece of tinted plastic over the signal reciever. Other than that, it works like a charm!!!!!
