  1. Hey all, does anyone have any suggestions about a DVD-R brand that will have the least compatibility probs in stand alone players? I ask because I have one that skips in one part on my Sony 5 disc player, but plays flawlessly on the computer. I am interested in what people ahve had the most luck with. Also, can anyone recommend a place to purchase 50+ at a reasonable price? Thanks!

I have both E-30 and HS2 DVD recorders. I use Princo blanks with very good results. I play them in computer, Sony and Panasonic players, of course I also have a pioneer dvd player but that is not fair the pioneers seem to play anything except PB&J sandwiches.

  3. I like Ritek G03. It sells as 1x, but burns at 2x in my Pioneer 105 with hacked firmware. I use them at my internet cafe for customers who burn their own dvd's and most of them have not had problems playing them on their standalones so compatibility is very good. If you buy them in 50 packs, they are about $1.50 each. I usually order mine from allmediaoutlet.com and they have been very good about sending me the right order and in good time. But beware of supermediastore.com. I've only had bad experiences with them and will never order from them again.

    HELLO

Just about anyone who is in "the know" will tell you that the Samsung BeAll discs are the best in terms of compatability.

They come in DVD-R and DVD+R though I think the DVD+R is new ... most of the comments (about how great they are) have been based on the DVD-R BeAll discs.

You can get the Samsung BeAll media at Meritline but you will find that many websites that offer DVD recordable media also have the Samsung BeAll discs as well.

    P.S.
I have had great results myself with the 2x Maxell and 2x Fuji discs. Both come in 10 packs (DVD-R format) that you can buy at BEST BUY for about $25.00 and I hear that some WAL-MART stores also have the 10 pack 2x Maxell discs for about $24.00

  6. Have to give my nod to the G03s. I have yet to burn a coaster with them, and they can burn at 2x with a firmware hack.

  7. I like the Dup-EZ's at Rima. They've worked great for me, but you should always buy a small quantity first to see if you like them.

  8. I've heard that Princo's are good at first, but that they degrade very quickly. I've also heard great things about the Samsung and will have to try those out. Maxell's are good too, but becareful not to buy the unbranded Maxell's that most online stores sell in bulk. And just to reiterate what I and some of you have been already saying:

Ritek G03 is the king of cheap media

I've heard lots of good things about the BeAlls, but from first hand I can tell ya Ritek G03s are Rad.

  10. I've used Princo 1x (not a problem with any of them for movies), Ritek (back to the future's backup skips randomly), and recently tried goldtop Optodisk, which so far work great, and are the cheapest price wise i've found (well, next to princo 1x). And the optodisks burn at 2x.

  11. Princo are total crap. Don't chance it.

Bought 20 Princo - ok. Then bought a spindle of them and about 20% coastered. Worse still the DVD movies I was backing up would jump after about half-way through, even though I'd used 1x burning and these Princo DVD-R's could do 1x 2x. The moral is this - there is just way too much variance in Princo quality. This thread demonstrates this.

After being burnt (pardon the pun), I stick to what ppl recommend. Currently using Conia's (40, no probs) and the Shintaro's haven't caused me any grief either to date. I only wish I'd read this thread earlier.

Check out gold-topped and blue-topped OPTODISCS for top quality and a bulk price. Better than Princo, Ritek, Accu, and LeadData.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

  13. I also like Optodisks more than the other bulk priced brands. I"ve used only the blue-topped variety. Never had a coaster burning 1x. Have had only one coaster at 2x. This media is the only thing that works in my friends toshiba combo DVD/VHS player.

  14. Are all these cheap disks 2x? And what sort of prices are the UK users here paying? I've only just started burning, am on my second pack of 25 Datawrite red 4x. I killed a dozen of the first box, but that was the PC's fault it seems. Burnt another 10 last night with a different prog and every one is fine. I paid about 95p each for these.

Are the 2x that much cheaper? COs if it's only 20p difference or so I think I'll stick to the 4's.
