  1. Hello room.

I was just wondering if anyone knows of a method/application that will help me get rid of annoying ad. breaks in my mpeg (vcd compliant) recordings. I have tmpgenc and vegas video at the moment each having no real facility for this specifically: Vegas would have to re-encode (not good) and tmpgenc would have to cut pieces one at a time and then splice them all together.
Im sure there must be some sort of app that lets you select valid ranges in an mpeg file then splice all the valid chunks together in one go, but I can't find any.
Any advice would be much appeciated, and thanks for any help in advance.

  2. Latest version of Tmpeg has that feature. Click on "Settings" under the 2nd tab there is a check for "source range" check it and click on the word "Source range". In the lower left hand there is a "cut" button. Can either delete that or the inverse of selected range.

There is also this feature in Virtualdub. Forget which buttons/menu items but it also has it.

    Have fun.

  3. Nightwing, sorry, I probably didn't make myself clear uin my post:
I'm capturing via a sofware video recorder, which produces an VCD compatible output (with quite a few ad breaks) so the mpeg is there already. Tmpgenc does allow you to select a source range for encoding, however I really dont want to re-encode since this would impact on the quality wouldn't it ?

    Thanx for the feedback though
    Best wishes, Barrie.

  4. ..... Nightwing, actually I took another look at the merge and cut "mpeg tools" option in Tmpgenc which can do the cutting and splicing its just a bit of a pain to use, since you can only have one range per clip. but you can however load the same clip over and over, still a PITA though .. anyway thanx for getting me to take another look at tmpgenc.

  5. Barrie,

VideoStudio 7 has a "Extract Video" function that allows you to mark off many sections of video and then remove them all at once. I use it to do the same thing as what you described. It takes me 10-15 minutes to remove all of the commercials from a 2 hour capture. It works great.

thanks for the advice, its a pity its not a little free utility though (80MB ) but there is a 30 day trial period so I'll dl overnight and try and check it out tomorrow.

    many thanks, Barrie.

  7. Sorry it did not work out!

MPEG is still not that good of a format to do editing in. Its possible but messy.

Is there any way you could record in a different compression format? Something that may still be lossy but a better quality? Would eat up more storage but may open thing up on the options.

    Good Luck!
