volume low on vcd...

is there any easy method to increase or boost the volume on a vcd if i am using the smartripper ==> DVD2AVI ==> TMPGEnc method?? audio seems really low volume... it does sounds great if i turn it up though... so the quality is good, just low volume.

In the advanced tab, audio options. I just always set this at 200%, and normalize the audio in DVD2AVI. I know I run the chance of having it a bit too hot, but it hasn't been much of a problem.

One other thing: you'll want to convert the audio to 44.1 kHz in DVDAVI, or use an external audio tool like toolame. Either way will take longer, but TMPGEnc doesn't convert 48kHz to 44.1 well at all, and it'll sound tinny.

I have yet to convert the audio from any DVDRip's 48 to 44 with a program other than TMPGEnc, and it sounds fine in every instance.

Just my 2 cents (save the extra work). TMPGEnc 12H I believe.

1) You might want to make a test x(S)VCD to see if your player will support 48k audio. Not down mixing to 44.1k saves a fair amount of time. Most (but by no means all) DVD players will play 48k audio (this is the DVD standard). However, several _older_ PC soundcards have trouble with 48k audio.

2) In DVD2AVI, click on Audio | Normalize. Click the litle box in the top right to enable the filter and enter a setting. I've found that 72 works out pretty well.
