  1. I recorded a movie onto my replay tv and then downloaded it onto my computer in mpeg1 format. The size of the initial file was around 2.5gig
I then used ulead videostudio to convert the file to VCD format. Although it took about 10 hours, it worked and the final file was around 1.6gig which was still too big to save it on a cd as a vcd.
I then went back into videostudio and converted the file to DVD format...that took almost a day and the final size of the file is now 6.7gig, still too big to fit onto a dvd.

Is there an easier way to do this? Is there a way to split the file into two or compress the file to make it fit onto a standard vcd or dvd? thanks

If you have a dvd burner, I would suggest keeping it in the DVD format. Other wise you will have to split it into several VCD's. Just re-encode the dvd with a program like dvd20ne or dvdshrink(freewre) and it will make it small enough to fit on one DVD.

If you want to cut it into several VCD's then use a VCD cutting program. I just use the cutting option on TMPGEnc but there are many programs out there that will cut an MPEG.

  3. If you just have it as MPEG1 at 1.6 gigs you should be able to split it using TMPGenc. Just go to File/MPEG Tools/ Merge and Cut. Best of luck!
