  1. I just burned a movie onto dvd using Ulead. The video is fine, but there is no audio. What could be the problem?

  2. How did you author the movie? Did you setup chapters or not?

I've read that if the clip you insert is marked with "auto play on first clip" (something worded like that) you won't get audio on it.

    Explain what settings you used.

    Hello

Did you test the final DVD disc using your computer and/or a stand alone DVD player? What kind of sound did you use?

I know my Pioneer stand alone DVD player will not play back audio from a DVD-R with MP2 sound if it is setup to pass AC-3 across the digital out to my Dolby Surround Sound Receiver. I need to go into the MENU and adjust the audio setup to get the MP2 sound. Perhaps you are encoutering the same problem with your stand alone DVD player?

Well I've used Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2 before to convert DIVX files to VCD as well as DVD format without problems.

You must be doing SOMETHING wrong.

Can you tell me what steps you took and do you know what type of audio the original avi file had? Was it WAV, MP3 or AC-3? Most likely it had to be one of those. When you play the AVI in a media player you can often tell what kind of audio it is based on the filters being used to play it back. BSPlayer is a good media player that does that.

    P.S.
You can get the BSPlayer from the doom9 website.

You are going to have to somehow extract the AC-3 audio out of the DivX file. Unfortunately I'm not so sure as to the best way to do that. However, once you figure that out then you should then process the DivX with TMPGEnc into MPEG-2 but just do the video (so you get a M2V file). Then you can use TMPGEnc to MUX (called MULTIPLEX) the new MPEG-2 video file (the M2V) with the extracted AC-3 so you have a single MPEG file.

Now you can import the MPEG file into MF2 and create your DVD-R

You have to do it THIS way because MF2 will not process AC-3 audio but if you feed it an already converted to MPEG-2 file with AC-3 muxed in THEN it will create a proper DVD for you (make sure you check the DO NOT CONVERT DVD COMPLIANT FILES option and do NOT attempt to use any of the editing features in MF2 either).

Also please note that I've had problems when trying to feed MF2 a MPEG-2 file that uses 3:2 pulldown (23.976fps PROGRESSIVE video). I think it will only work well with INTERLACED 29.97fps MPEG-2 files. I don't know why that is.

These days I rarely use MF2 anymore. I will sometimes use it if my MPEG-2 file is either 25fps PAL or 29.97fps INTERLACED NTSC but I don't use it with PROGRESSIVE 23.976fps NTSC anymore.

If all you have is MF2 and you don't have TMPGEnc or another MPEG-2 encoder (such as CCE or MainConcepts) then you are out of luck as far as AC-3 audio goes. You will have to extract the AC-3 from the DivX and use something such as BeSweet or HeadAC3he (both freeware audio conversion programs) to then convert the AC-3 to something MF2 can handle (a WAV audio file or a MP3 audio file) then import the DivX and the new non AC-3 audio to compile you DVD with MF2
