  1. hi

    got some old tv programs that iv been asked to share but the file size is quite large. is there any way to compress them into a smaller file. each episode is about 25 minutes long and the file size is about 230 meg. the episodes where captured as avi from vhs using virtualdub then run through tmpegnc to get the mpeg.

    you can take the original .avi and run it through TMPGenc again, and lower the bitrate further.

    or you can take the mpeg file and run it through TMPGenc, and lower the bitrate, but the re-encoding will probably make for some really ugly video.

  3. im quite new at this but wont lowering the bit rate lower the quality, thats something id rather not do

  4. If you have the original AVI I would save it as a DIVX or XVID .

  5. how do i save it as a divx do i have to re-encode it or can i use something to just save it as divx

    you can open the file in Virtualdub, under Video select Compression, and choose a Divx codec.

    I thought you needed to maintain an mpg file, which prompted my initial answer.
