  1. Hi guys,

Before I formatted my PC I was able to download a movie (using kazaa), convert it to MPG using TMPGEnc and fit it onto one VCD using the guide on this site. This meant I could get a whole movie onto 1 CD. Great.

Since formatting my PC I have not been able to do this.

If I take an avi movie and use virtualdub to extract the audio and then use TMPGEng to convert everything to mog the size of the file shhots from around 750MB to around 1074MB. Much to large to fit onto ine CD.

What am I doing wrong? I know it's possible as I used to do it. Am I using the correct setting?

please help. I upgraded my PC just so TMPGENC would do it's job faster. (Got the time from around 12 hours to around 1.5 hours!!)

    Thanks.

Is the .avi file the same length or bigger?. Also is your bitrate setting the same ?...one of the last steps in the wizard lets' you know what your resulting file size will be and gives you option to adjust this according to the media you are using.........I know this all sounds obvious but It's a start.

There's a version of TMPGEnc that has a bug which defaults all mpeg1 encoding to the VCD standard of 1150 Kb/s. You might want to try a newer version.

  5. Thanks for the advice guys, but it ain't helped.

When using the wizard, at the last step I can choose the media (74min VCD) and sellect the "use 100% of disk" setting which resets the bitrates to the appropriate levels. Now before this used to solve the problem and the movie would be compressed to fit on the disk. Not any more.

I am using TMPGEnc 2.5 if that helps.

I have a horrible feeling that I am missing some vital software (codecs or aspi or something).

That's the one with the bug, get a different version and you shouldn't have any problem.

You can't use the 80min VCD setting in the wizard???

  10. I could select the 80min disk setting if I had any 80min disks, but I only have 74 minute disks, hence the reason I select the 74min VCD optio.

  11. all stop

    simple answer is bitrate

standard bitrate for vcd is 1150

what you need to do to fit on 1 650 cd is work out the bitrate

so you need a bitrate calc

on the tools section is a list of calcs

i recommend the one by tomas zavodny

you type in the length of movie (time) and how many cd's you want it on, and it show the bitrate, then in tmpgenc, you load up your usual, bits and pieces and then before encoding load the unlock template goto the option where you change the bitrate and type in what the calc said

then click start and then you will have a mpg that fits

now before you say "but the final size is still bigger than my cd size"

i know its weird but a 800 mpeg file will fit on a 700 meg cd so a 740 meg file will fit on a 650 cd

try burning it you should find it fits

    have a look at

With all due respect......are you using circa 1997 cdr's??
I've never seen 74min cdr's in several years in the stores I shop (unless you are talking about cdrw)
