I only use optidisk gold with my pioneer 105. Not a single coaster yet!

    These discs work wonderfully.

But don't hack your drive. It's not worth it. If you need 2x, buy true 2x discs. That is a HACKED by Gradius/NIL, not an official release of any kind. Hacks have been known to ruin -RW discs, destroy -RW functions of the drive, hurt read abilities of the drive, and remove all CD-R usage.

    From that firmware README:
    Drive: Pioneer DVR-105/DVR-A05 (DVD-R/RW Burner)
    Firmware Rev.: v1.30
    Patch: RPC-1 (Region Free) + 2xDVD-R + 12xRip
    Date: 2003.04.07 - 23:35 GMT
Authors: zaitec2, >NIL: & Gradius for the write strategy
Release Notes: This is the release version of the 2x4all DVD-R
including the anti 2x Rip Speed patch
The 2xDVD-R patch DOES NOT affect the burning process
for media media that already burned at 2x.
The 2xDVD-R enables burning non 2x DVD-R's at 2x BUT
PROPER BURN IS NOT GUARANTEED! It depends on the media
Flashing Instructions: Make sure you don't have Intel Application Accelerator
installed. Then run UPGRADE.BAT. This should run fine
on Japanese systems as well. For more info:

One blue top coaster and one unsuable white top DVD-RW for me. Other than that they've been fine.

  6. well I flashed my drive last night and burned a dvd-r and a cd-r with no problems. Also love the improved ripping speed. Obviously this thing isn't right for everyone but it works for me.

I ordered 2 50-packs gold top and use up about 25, they're perfect if the size is below 4.25 GB. They burn at 2X with 500AX in 2.0 USB box.
