  1. hi

im using tmpgenc to convert my divx avi's to mpeg but its far too slow, when i say slow i mean 10hrs to convert a film.

is this about right? or am i doing something wrong?

also are there any other programs i could use to speed the process up.

im using win xp, athlon 800 , 256 ram.

thank you for the help in advance.

  2. Athlon 800? There's your problem!

It depends what your doing to them, and how good you want them. The Jackass episodes I recently did for example used the noise filter which added a lot to the time, even on a XP2400. There are much faster progs out there, but the results are worse. Not really played with any others since using tmpgenc, but the DVD's I'm writing are for myself so I want them done as good as possible.

  4. You could try CCE which is a lot faster then TMPGEnc, I gather the results are supposedly inferior but it seems OK to me and it's a whole lot better than some of the software around. However, it does have one drawback in that if the DivX file has the audio in AC3 format CCE won't accept it. There is a workaround in that you can get a prog that decompresses the audio so that CCE will accept it. I can't remember what it is as I'm at work at the moment and my equipment is at home, but it comes with some other well known programme. Probably one of the other people on here can advise.
