  1. hi
i wanna copy my films from my dv-cam to my pc and i wonder if sb could help me with this issue. i know firewire cards exist but i wanna to do this way first:

from the DV-cam i used a AV-cable which in the end splits up in to a composite and one audio left chinch and one audio right chinch. since PCs only habe one audio-in and dont support chinch i used an adapter which combined both chinch cables in to one 3,5mm which then fitted in my audio in. i started my capturing programme (tv-card software) and saw the picture alright but the sound was only mono. i checked all options (system tray, control panel etc) but couldn't find a solution to bring the audio to stereo. So now i would like to know how can i get the video incl. the audio of dv-cam on to my pc without yet using firewire???
    i also have:
-ATI radeon 9000 (not Pro) with s-video In/Out, composite In/Out
    -Tv-card with s-video-in, composite-in, AV-in and antennas of course
    i would appreciate any help

    thx

you should get a firewire card (about 50$) as you are losing massive quality really ..

otherwise whats the point about having a dv camera

Does the adaptor convert to a 3.5mm stereo jack? It may seem too obvious, but if it's a mono jack with only 2 'sections' - there's a fairly simple solution to your problem!

The other thing is... are you plugging it in to the Mic input on your soundcard, or the Line In? The Mic input is often mono, whereas Line In will be stereo.

Sorry if these seem like stupid questions!

    cheers,

See my reply to your thread in the Capture Forum. it sounds like you need Maplin code N85AN or you could use DG27E and QT64U. The first is a twin phono socket to stereo jack adapter, the second two are a twin phono to stereo jack plug cable and a back to back connector

It looks right, its got tip, ring and sleeve on the jack plug end. I assume you are using the line in socket on your soundcard and not the microphone socket as the mic input will be mono? Does the plug fit properly into the socket or is something stopping it from going in fully? If it isn't in fully you will only get one channel connecting. That's why I prefer to use a cable with an ordinary plug, it isn't as bulky.

Put it in the line in! The mike socket is almost always mono for reasons unknown, very irritating when you try to use a stereo mic..

if you need to test, get a stereo jack to stereo jack connector, put a tape or disc with wide stereo into your walkman, plug end to end, and record from each socket. use the volume control's recording segment (usually you have to go through the file menu or something to find it ) to make sure all the other sections are muted off and it's not accidentally set to 'everything mono' or balanced off to one side..

Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more!
