  1. Hi,
first question should be simple: when i use firewire with my DV-cam will it also transfer the audio with the video. will adobe premiere import it directly from the dv cam with the firewire cable?? will it be an avi-file?

Second and more important question/ problem:
i've tried to copy transfer from the DV-cam to my pc using an AV-cable coming from the cam and then splitting in to an composite, audio left and audio right. the picture was transfered to my pc but the audio although i used an adapter which combined my audio left and right chinch in to a 3,5 mm male only was mono as if only one audio was transfered. i had to combine those both chinch audio because every pc has only got one audio in and thats not even a chinch one! i use a tv-card with tv-in, s-video in, composite in and an ATI radeon 9000 (not pro) with s-video in/out and composite in/out. Does anyone have any suggestion of how to connect my pc with the dv cam so i can receive the pic in decent quality and the audio in stereo??? i would appreciate it very much!
    thx

Yes audio in included with the video on a DV transfer so Premiere capture will have both.

I'm not sure what you mean by "cinch". I believe you transfer the audio with a capture card by running the audio out of your camcorder to the line input of your sound card. If your camcorder has RCA audio outputs (one red, one white) you just need the adapter cable that converts to the mini stereo line in on the sound card.

See my post on your other thread. It sounds like you used a mono 3.5mm jack into your soundcard and not a stereo one. A stereo 3.5mm jack plug has three connections on it (known in the trade as tip, ring and sleeve), a mono one only has a tip and sleeve.

    Hello

For best picture and audio you should be using the FireWire method of A/V transfer with a DV cam. This will copy a digital bit-for-bit perfect copy of your footage from the tape in the DV cam to your computer. Audio will be in whatever format your footage was shot (either 12-bit or 16-bit stereo audio as most if not all DV cams offer the user these two choices).

The resulting file will be a DV format file. You can import this and edited it in Adobe Primiere (among many other programs). When you are done with the editing step you will then have to encode it into whatever format you intend to use such as mpeg1 for VCD or mpeg2 for SVCD or DVD etc.

The encoding can be done with the very popular TMPGEnc or Cinema Craft Encoder (CCE basic or CCE SP if you have it).

    P.S.
There are guides on this site on how to convert DV file format A/V footage to MPEG1 or MPEG2 using TMPGEnc

You are SO freakin' annoying I don't even know why I bother to help you!

First of all ... if you use a DV wire (i.e., FireWire) cable to connect your DV cam to your computer you only need a single DV wire. This copies the VIDEO and the AUDIO to your computer in the form of a DV file.

IF you want to capture using your ATI card you will need the adapter to input sound into your sound card. I posted on one of your other threads the information you need.

Now stop making multiple threads for basically the same damn thing!

Try your local Radio Shack, Best Buy, any other electronics stores. What you are looking for is a Stereo 1/8" mini plug to RCA plugs. You should be able to get them in lengths of 3' or 6', some times they will be with the computer accessories.
