  1. Hi folks,
I have a DVD player that plays XVCD and not SVCD, I can create XVCD at 720*576 or 480*576 at 2500 bitrate and my player plays it. What' the difference with a SVCD at 480*576??

  2. Check your authoring software.

I had trouble with geting SVCD to work after burning with Nero. I had to use the compatiblity section of Nero, which puts the MPEG file in a different;y named directory. After that, my discs worked fine.

aramis, the difference is the format. SVCD allows interlaced video and more than one audio track.
The quality of both will be the same, if you encode with same encoder to same resolution / bitrates.
    For example encode to MPEG-2 480x576 VBR 2500 and MPEG-1 Layer-2 44,1kHZ 224.
Multiplex and author as SVCD, you will end with SVCD.
Multiplex and author as VCD, you will end with XVCD.
