  1. Hi

    I am current;y tying to convert an avi with the following attributes:
    640x272
    Audio = MP3 130kps bitrate
    Video = 23fps
    Vid sample rate = 24bit
    DIVXMPG4 V3
    size = 715MB

    ok

    Firstly, when I try to do a straight converion in TMPG (using the wizard) and load the avi up, the audio source file is automatically entered as the same avi file, when I goto the bitrate section, the size of the file is 8GB, and I can't make it smaller at all, if I try as a SVCD same thing occurs, smaller total size, but still way over 100%.

    when I use Vdub to rip the audio out I get an error stating that the sound is vbr and that I should try uncompressing the audio, then recompressing with a constant bitrate.

    I have tried just ripping the audio out uncompressed and then using it as the audio source in TMPG, AND I have tried ripping it THEN recompressing it as CBR using Goldwave THEN using it to TMPG, but either eay when I finish the encoding in TMPG the end result is a movie that kind of freezes in spots and the sound is out of synch.

    Now the avi file is fine, no probs, I have searched for crappy frames in VDUB, but it does not fine ANY errors at all.

    after lookign at these forums I tried vdub freeze, now this version DOESN'T give me that error about the vbr audio, BUT if I try to save the wav file, it does only like 1min of the audio (normal vdub does it all), I can't get vdub freeze to do the whole file.

    (FYI for both version I have tried direct stream AND full process, with no compression)

    I have even tried ripping the audio using Goldwave THEN using it as source in TMPG, but the end result is still a out of synch movie (this is AFTER I process the m2v and wav files in DVD Maestro and make DVD files out of them.

    NOTHING seems to work, THE ONLY thing that has worked is DVD MovieFactory, BUT the movie is always squished, the aspect ratio is bung, and I don't know how (in that program) to make it keep the ratio (I guess I have to use the custom settings, but I haven't tried, I don't know exactly what settings to use).

    ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!!

  2. i know what your going through i had the same

    the steps i take are

    load uncompresser (found here http://www.mnsi.net/~jschlic1/)

    decompress avi, 700 megs normally goes to around 1.4 gigs, it doesnt replace the file but creates a new one with pcm at end say film was movie.avi a new file will be called movie_pcm.avi

    load vdub and load uncompressed avi, (notice no errors are displayed)

    goto file, then file information and write down fps and length (time)

    goto audio click compression=none, conversion=44100, click high quality

    goto file/save/save wav as say filmnameWAV.wav

    close vdub

    load tmpgenc (the best by far, not used anything else, gives ace results)

    select correct fps (written down earlier)

    now you select the _pcm file into video

    and the saved wav (filmname.wav) into audio

    and go from there

    i have written a more detailed word doc with pics if you want

    email me mat_stuff@hotmail.com or if you got msn mesenger add me and i'll send you bits

    One problem might be the frame rate: 23 fps is not a valid frame rate for anything on a (S)VCD/DVD, so probably there's some frame rate conversion taking place somewhere in your process, that throws the audio out of sync.
