  1. hello
was wonder if any other mpeg2 encoders other than TMPGenc will encode mpeg2 files from mpeg/mpeg2 files? I'm not that thrilled with the results of TMPGenc, especially for how long it takes.
have read in other threads that CCE will not do the conversion from PAL to NTSC. looking for one that will convert SVCD to DVD, as well as pal to ntsc. have access to Canopus, MainConcept, and Panasonic (as well as CCE). searched the forums and looked at their websites, but couldn't find anything for sure that told me what I was looking for.
anyone use any of these encoders? what do people think produces the best quality and runs at a decent pace - opinions welcomed!
If I have to stick with TMPGenc, does applying filters hurt the resulting video? tried using the "sharpen edges" filter at 85 and didn't notice a difference from the source. took 16 hours to encode a 2 hour movie (PAL svcd to NTSC DVD, 4300 VBR)
    thank you for any advice!

It can be done with CCE if you use an avs file to do your fps change and resize and blah blah blah

But I always use TMPGEnc because I'm comfortable with using it.

Takes 17 hours to do a roughly 2 hour PAL to NTSC here on a 2.4 P4 512MB running WinXP home.

I converted PAL mpeg2 to NTSC mpeg2 wih Vegas 4 using MainConcept MPEG-2 encoder plug-in. Very good quality and fast enough: 1:1.5 speed ratio.

  5. thanks for the replys! didn't know that about CCE and the avs files, going to read up on that now. can you do any of the filtering in these other packages like you can do with TMPGenc, meaning are they part of the app? i'm guessing you can do the avsynth/feed to an app and apply filter, but i'm not up to that yet (still learning). was wondering if there were any options in CCE/MainConcept/Canopus/etc for applying affects.

is there any harm in having multiple encoders loaded on your PC? as if one codec or dll from one app interferes with another one? that's been my biggest hang-up for testing multiple of them, don't want to mess up something else that may be working.

thank you again for the help!
