  1. Dear All,

    Complete novice here!
Am having difficulty compressing video footage that has been taken on a camcorder and sending it via email to another email address!

Rather than wasting your time - I did try to look to see if anybody else had posted a similar qusetion, but frankly, couldn't understand all the technological terms used elsewhere so have resorted to this!

    Hope someone can help.

    Regards

    DL.

Video footage is usually already compressed on the computer. Have you tried to use .wmv format? It usually makes a relatively small file that you can email.
    Hello.

  4. davidlindsay9, wmv I believe stands for Windows Media Video.
Since you are running windows xp you should have on your system, Windows Movie Maker, (make sure you are running the latest version 2). you can download it from the microsoft web site.
Movie maker has a few wizards that will help you ouput to the type of file you need.

  5. One thing to consider is the file size allowable for attachments for the person you're sending it to and your email. What's the length of the movie and what format is it in now. A little more info on the file would help others in answering your question.

You really should forget about sending compressed video in email. It will be much too big of a file. Better to create a vcd at 720 x 480 and you can make it on a cd and make it autorun so the person on the receiving end can just put it in their computer and it will start right up. You can send 20 min of good quality video and send it through regular mail. The guides to do all this are written in this site except the part about sending mail through the post office.
