  1. I attempted to trick my DVD player to recognize a SVCD using the VCD header trick, but it did not work very well. The DVD player actually views it as a VCD and starts to play it, but all I get is a blocky version of the DVD player's menu screen with full audio. Strangely enough, my computer' DVD player has no problem playing it.

I captured with VDUB and converted with TMPGEnc, with "Interlace", "Top Field First (A)", "4:3 Display", and "Full Screen (Keep Aspect Ratio)" selected, and nothing below checked on the "Advanced" tab. Then I ran a Simple Multiplex with "MPEG-1 Video CD" selected and received a warning that it might not play properly. Finally, I burned it to a CDR, with Nero, as a VCD. Nero also gave me a warning.

Any idea what I might have done wrong or how I can make it work on my DVD player? Is it not working because of any of the settings I listed above?

  3. I think my mother in law owns this exact same DVD player. If it is, IT WILL NOT PLAY SVCD's no matter what. The fact that you got it to play at all is a miracle. Again, basing all of this on having the same dvd player.

If it isn't is sounds like you have done all you can to make it work. There are some DVD players that will not do the trick. My only suggestions, and you wont like it, is to get a dvd player that plays different formats. You can get the cheapos like apex and mintek that play everything. They are wallyworld specials for $40-$50. Sorry could provide more assistance.

  4. I went with the regular one, not non-standard. Should I try it the other way?
