  1. Hi all,
I have managed to convert several avi files to SVCD and play them on my stand alone player. i have used https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/119210.php for converting to mpg.

If the avi is VBR i have used vdub-mp3 freeze to remove any bad frames if neccessary.

However on some avi files, when running tmpeng to encode, i get a 4 hour mpg. The first part is video (full length without sound) then the rest is a black screen. I have all codecs installed, (checked with AVIcodec).

It seems to me that the audio is being added after the video even though there is no sound at all, but then again i am only guessing.

Any advice or links would be greatly appreciated. I have looked through the forum, but to be honest i don't know the terminology to search for the problem. The nearest i have foun is CrystalSuicune comments in topic https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=119210 but that did not get any replies.

thanks in advance for any help or suggestions

If TMPGEnc says that the video time / runtime is way too long
TMPGEnc keeps encoding after the end of video with only a black screen
Try change the directshow reader priority, in TMPGEnc under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 1 or 2 or to the top of plugin-list and reopen the video. If that doesn't help you can always use the source range to select exact what to encode, under Settings->Advanced in TMPGEnc.
