I have several VCDs on disc, created with SVCD MPEG-2, 2passVBR encoding, and chucked onto disc using "VCD Header Trick". Question, how to I extract the MPEG file from this disc now? And should it retain its SVCD characteristics, ie. VBR ?

I have around 50 svcd disks with my home videos; when I bought a DVD burner I have decided to move the films to DVD. To get the films from the CD´s all I had to do was to explore the CD´s and find the mpg2 file, and copy it to the computer hard disk.

There are a few apps that do this. One of the easiest and the one i use is ISObuster. It will extract the mpegs out correctly.
When I say correctly, it will pull just the mpeg information onto your hard drive. I have heard (although not personally witnessed) issues coming up from just simply going through explorer finding the .dat file and copying it to the hard drive.
look in the tools section for isobuster. -

after that remultiplex the mpg to svcd with tmpgenc (fix the mpg headers to svcd again)
www.dvdrhelp.com/faq#multiplex , choose the mpg as both the video and audio source file, choose svcd as type and create a new mpg. -
thanks everyone! mission accomplished!
