Apologies first of all as a newbie, this has probably been asked a thousand times before . Have tried to look for a guide but cannot find!

I have some VHS tapes, which are not out on DVD, which i want to convert to DVD preferably, or VCD if I have to. I'm looking for an easy guide.

Please note I do have an ATI card.

    Thanks and apologies in advance.

    Path you want to follow:
    Capture
    Edit
    Encode
    Author

As to how you get from point A) original analog source to point B) Finished DVD/VCD is pretty much up to you, the time you want to invest and what software you will need/want to purchase.

I can't recommend much (being that I capture using an ADVC-100) so I am unfamiliar with the ATI cards BUT I can let you know some things I have learned:
Your final product - Only as good as the source!! - Some will argue with this, but you can only apply so many filters in avisynth before it's not worth it.
The more hard drive space - THE BETTER!
There are many programs available for any step along the way. Try the Demos, see what you like!!
And, no matter when you think you get it JUST the way you want it...you will see a flaw that you just NEED to go back and fix!

What I use for the process:
    I capture with Scenalyzer Live!
    Edit/frameserve to encode with avisynth
    Encode with CCE Basic
    Author with DVD-Lab
