You cant even play vcds with a modchip.

There are programs that can change vcd footage to the .pss file standard for ps2 games (which is mpeg 2 I think with a different extension) but you can only get about 15minutes on a disk
    (These also require a modchip)

Divx on the other hand can be played with a simple boot disk and you can use your PS2 remote control if you have a modchip.

DVD-Rs will work fine without any chip whatsoever
If you need chip info drop me an e-mail

    I forgot to state

If you turn your vcd's into divx format they will play on your ps2 using the divx media player bootdisk that requires a modchip or other boot disk such as the swap magic to make it work.

You have to have a modchip or boot disk to make the cd with the divx program work

You insert the dixv boot disk if you hve a chip inside
Then a menu comes up ans you insert the movie.

I think it has to be at least divx 3 movies to work

  6. Just wanted to point out that if you use ifogen and tocgen on your SVCD files it will play on your PS2 just fine.

These two nifty little apps makes it belive it's a standard DVD when it's really a SVCD

( And yeah, you do NOT need a modchip for that to work )

I would like to hear more on the process to make SVCD's play on PS2 also. Can you make VCD's play with this process too?
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

  9. Well there is some great info on this forum ...

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=535207&highlight=ifogen#535207

And no, you can NOT play VCD in PS2 ... it does NOT support mpeg1.

( Unless you got the newest modchip that can boot programs from your memorycard ... don't remember the modchip name though )

  10. Right...

You mean playing DVD-R's on the PS2 with SVCD mpeg movies on them.

I thought you meant playing svcd's (as in normal CD-R's).

Is it worth all this modificatoin of the PS2 just for it to work?!?!?

What sort of hastle are we talking about? Personally, I dont have a PS2 but i cant imagine its with the headache when you can drop 49.99 at your local walmart will get you a basic APEX 1110 which will play all these disks you want your PS2 to play (and then some)

spend a little more and you can get the 5131, which will kick the PS2 out of the water for SVCD playback since it hold 3 disks at once!!!!!

    Just my thoughts.
