  1. Does VCD's allow Dolby surround sound because it's my understanding that it is encoded within a stereo track.
I really need a reply to this.

  2. Nooooo, you really need to do some searching on this forum under that topic heading to find your detailed answer to a topic that has been run through the mill several times over...in a word, YES

  3. If you have a Dolby ProLogic Reciever or better then the reciever will convert the stereo tracks to Dolby ProLogic surround, but you cannot put DD 5.1 on a VCD.

  6. Dolby surround is nothing but an algorithm that process stereo signal into surround sound, so another stereo input can have dolby surround. It is Dolby Digital that is gives you 5.1 output.

  7. That's right.

Dolby Surround is just a way of putting in two extra (centre and surround) but not discete channels of audio into any stereo signal. You will need a Dolby Surround or Pro Logic decoder to be able to hear the extra channels.

You can have Dolby Surround encoded audio in ANY stereo signal.

That is, you can have Dolby Surround audio on a normal CD, over FM radio, on a LP, MP3, etc.

    Regards.
