  1. When searching through forums before I purchased my dvd burner one thing I noticed but did not pay much attention to was the problem of DVD-Rs freezing, Jerking, or becoming blocky at the end of a movie. Now that I own a dvd burner I am well aware of this problem. However, I have not found any clear cut explanation to why this happens. Here are the explanations I have found but do not fully accept.

    1. You have a cheap DVD Player:
--This does have something to do with the problem, I have found that cheap DVD-Rs, such as khypermedia, play perfect all the way through in some players but get blocky and freeze at the end on others. However, since higher quality DVD-Rs, such as Ritek, have played on all players, this lays the burden of problem on the DVD-R media, and not on the player.

    2. You are Using cheap DVD-R media with bad dye:
--One explanation is that cheap media uses a lighter dye causing it to be unreadable by some players. If this is true, how come the disc will play all the way through, and only mess up at the end? Going back to cheap khypermedia disks(which have lighter dye), I have actually burnt a few disks that play all the way through.

    3. You are using cheap media with rough edges:
--This explanation intrigued me the most as it almost makes sense. With some cheap media, the outside edges are visibly "rough". In theory, this can throw the disk off balance. As you move towards the outside of an off balance disc, the alignment gets more and more off track, causing the dvd lens to read out of line. Although this could explain why it starts happening at the end, I wouldn't think that a little bit of rough edge would throw a dvd off balance, considering that people are putting sticker lables on top of their dvd's and they are still working, right? ( I haven't actually tried putting a sticker on a DVD before so I can't attest to them still working after.)

With this, I leave the Problem still unsolved, does anyone know the real cause of DVD-R Freeze?

  2. The latter sounds like your problem, because princo has been known to play horrible around the edges and degrade after time.
