  1. Win98SE
    600+ Megs of RAM
    Plenty of spare H/D space.

    TMPGEnc 2.5
    VCDEasy 1.1.5

I have tried a few times converting a divx5 (videodub says that is the codec to decompress anyway) avi to mpg so I can burn it.

The last time I even used Goldwave to rip the audio to .wav first and fed both the .wav and the original .avi to TMPGEnc.

VCDEasy always gives a scan cdr and cdrdao error upon startup. I see my burner in the list but burn is greyed out. I have adaptec software on my PC so I was able to downgrade to 4.6 but no help.

When I analyze the .mpg from TMPGenc in VCDEasy it says "analyze failed" "error trying to run MPEG analyze" "access violation at address XXXXXXXXX"

I tried to open the same file with VirtualDub and it says "MPEG import filter: pack synchronization error".

I did some reading, how I came up with the Goldwave idea, and the audio is mp3.

Several problems, anybody have any ideas?

Also, what is the difference between a .mpg file I can play on windows media player and the .mpg that TMPGEnc generated from the conversion? Is there a way to get the first into a format that I can burn?

Thanks in advance from a serious newbie.

  2. Anyone have any idea? I followed the convert to svcd guide using tmpgenc on this site.

Did I miss a step? I will try again with another video and see if that changes things, but any help would be appreciated.

  3. Try a Video Scan in Virtualdub( to look for bad frames) and also use Vdub to extract the audio as WAV using the WAV as the audio source in TMPGE.
You can also "restream" ther DIVX using Vdub (ie:Video>DirectStream>Audio>Direct Stream>File>Save As AVI.)
    "Today is only yesterdays tomorrow"

  4. When I try to open it with virtualdub I get the following error "MPEG import filter: pack synchronization error".

I have even used Goldwave to extract audio as a .wav and get the same error.

Is there a difference between a divx avi file and the avi that would be created if I restream in virtualdub and save as an avi?

The movie I start out with scans clean in virutaldub, it is the result of the tmpgenc process that is no good. I imagine I am missing a step or a setting somewhere.

    Thanks for your reply

Are all your codecs loaded? Are you using Virtual Dub MPEG-2 AC3 mod? And when you get the pack-synchronization error, could you have accidentally tried to load a MPEG-2 video into Virtual Dub?
    Hello.

  6. Tommyknocker, thanks for the reply.

I think I need to do some more reading. Not sure what the Virtual Dub mpeg-2 ac3 mod is.

The end result video should be svcd format, but it does nothing. That is what I am trying to load into Virtual Dub when I get the error. I was hoping I could open that end result file in Virtual Dub and get file info to post here. I hoped that would shine some light on what I had done wrong.

If I can play the avi on my pc with windows media player, does that mean all the correct codecs are loaded?

The avi's I am using for my test run play on my pc and have passed initial virtual dub scanning without any problems or errors.

    Steps I am taking:

    1. Use Goldwave to extract audio to .wav.
    2. Use TMPGEnc to convert by feeding it the original .avi and the extracted .wav. I am saving output as .mpg
    3. When I open VCDEasy and feed it that newly created .mpg file (I think that file is MPEG-2 because I am telling it SVCD format for NTSC Film), VCDEasy always returns "analyze failed, error trying to run MPEG analyze, access violation at address xxxxxxxx".

Should I try different software instead of VCDEasy or am I doing something wrong? If I should try different software, any recommendations?

    Thanks again!

Which template in TMPGEnc are you using?
    Hello.

  8. Using the wizard with the following settings:

    Page 1
    super video-cd
ntsc film (have tried ntsc too)
    cbr standard format

    Page 2
    original .avi and ripped .wav

    video type
    non-interlace
    field order
    bottom field first (field B)
    aspect ration
    1.1 (VGA)
    content of video
    film movie

    Page 3
Haven't change anything on page 3. This is a very small video clip for me to experiment on so I haven't messed with bitrate.

    Page 4
Haven't changed anything on page 4.
    shows 480x480 resolution
    shows 2520 avg bitrate
    shows 224 audio bitrate
    set to CDR 74min (VCD/SVCD)

    Page 5
Output name is prepopulated with the original .avi name but with an .mpg extension.

    Thanks again!

How small is the file? Oh, and while you are at it, go to File-->Settings-->CD Writer. Then tell us what setting is "Force Driver" set at.
    Hello.

  10. I was originally working with a 127MB tv show in avi. Because of the problems I have had (same problems regardless which file I use) I switched to a 13MB movie trailer to save time on the encoding.

There a specific template, and howto, you recommend I use?

Which tool you want me to check for CD Writer?

  12. I don't see a Force Driver setting under TMPGenc. That for VCDEasy or are you using a different version of TMPGenc?

    2.511 here.

  13. Don't I feel stupid. I installed WinDVD and it plays the resulting movie just fine. Something up with this version of VCDEasy I guess.

I will do some research now trying to find a replacement for VCDEasy.

    Thanks again!
