  1. i am now capturing using ATI's MMC7 with thier TV Wonder card. i am capturing in AVI and using the Huffy codec. i am pleased with it but is thier BETTER software for even a more sharper and clearer image? you know the saying, "the better quality image you have before encoding, the better the finished product will be." i am using TMPGE for encoding and i have it maxed out for the best picture i can get in MPEG1 format and for what i want on a disk. i'm just looking for better capturing software. Thanks.....

  2. i think that saying is meant for the quality of your source, ie cable, satelite or vcr picture. try noise filters if tmpge has any, if not look for the panasonic encoder or a cable amplifier might work if your cables are old or you have 5 tv's plugged in.

  3. i have my satelite reciever hooked directly to my pc using gold plated rca plugs. i've tried a couple different software programs like WinDVD, ulead video studio, and others. seems like each one i have tried and using different ways to capture on each, i havn't found one that will capture as good as MMC7. only thing about MMC7 i dislike is very small lines in the image after capture. don't get me wrong the picture is great but i'm looking for something even better. more sharper image. huffy codec gives the best picture so far but is there any better? thanks.....

  4. then no, I have found huffyuv to be the best, with picview mjpeg a close second.

the best results you can get is if you capture larger, then resize with filters prior to final encoding.

see Just G's post in this thread:
    "The importance of resolution?"

unfortunately under win2k the TV wonder card is crippled to xxx*240 or xxx/288 lines. Don't know if it is now under win9x but wasn't prior to the latest MMC release.

  5. small lines?

This could be the result of a wrong field order.
Try to load the AVi into VirualDub and load
the FIELD SWAP filter. If the lines disappear, then your field order will be wrong.
